In a momentous event during the 31st Convocation Ceremony, the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, honoured former INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, and GTBank co-founder, Dr. Fola Adeola, with the prestigious Doctor of Science, Honoris Causa awards.

These recognitions celebrated their significant contributions to national development.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, serving as the Visitor to the University, affirmed his administration’s dedication to advancing the education sector through the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Tinubu highlighted ongoing efforts to collaborate with education stakeholders, emphasizing the importance of collective support from University Unions.

Represented by Hon. Yusuf Tanko Sununu, the Minister of State for Education, Tinubu urged University Unions to be partners in progress with the government, emphasizing that a strike-free academic system would enhance global competitiveness.

Senator Abubakar Kyari, representing the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, commended FUNAAB’s achievements, urging the institution to align with the government’s vision to address rising food costs.

He called on graduates to champion agricultural transformation and uphold the university’s reputation.

Chancellor Edidem Ekpo Okon, the Obong of Calabar, expressed joy at the University’s growth and commitment to academic excellence.

He acknowledged the President’s unwavering support for the education sector but appealed for the rehabilitation of the Camp-Alabata Road leading to the University.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Babatunde Kehinde lauded the President’s Supreme Court victory and announced impressive academic achievements.

With 122 graduates obtaining First Class Honours, he revealed six new programs awaiting approval. Prof. Kehinde celebrated FUNAAB’s global rankings and expressed gratitude for government support, while urging for continued assistance to sustain excellence.

In his closing remarks, Prof. Kehinde congratulated the Class of 2024, envisioning them as pivotal in reshaping the nation’s agricultural landscape.
