In a resounding victory against insurgency, the Armed Forces of Nigeria, under the command of the Defence Headquarters in Abuja, have achieved remarkable success in their recent operations.
Major General Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operation (DMO), proudly announced that in the past week alone, troops have made significant strides by neutralizing 185 terrorists, apprehending 212 suspects, and successfully rescuing 71 kidnapped victims.
General Buba, in a statement released on Friday, detailed the comprehensive accomplishments of the Armed Forces. Beyond counter-terrorism efforts, troops also thwarted oil theft activities, denying criminals an estimated sum of N1,065,885,050.00 in the South South region.
The recoveries made during these operations are staggering. Troops seized 224 assorted weapons and 2,337 assorted ammunition, including various rifles, guns, pistols, and improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
The recovered arsenal also included a substantial amount of ammunition and equipment used in criminal activities.
The Niger Delta region witnessed a significant crackdown on illegal activities, with troops discovering and destroying 12 dugout pits, 61 boats, 56 storage tanks, and 13 vehicles.
Additionally, 78 cooking ovens, 4 pump machines, and 51 illegal refining sites were dismantled.
Troops successfully recovered 815,980 litres of stolen crude oil, 163,675 litres of illegally refined AGO, and 1,750 litres of DPK.
Despite the commendable success, Major General Edward Buba acknowledged the gravity of the security challenges facing the nation.
He emphasised that the military understands the true extent of the threat and is resolutely facing and winning the war against terrorism.
In addressing the ongoing debate surrounding crowd funding and its potential contribution to kidnappings, General Buba insisted that countering insurgency is a marathon, not a sprint.
He stressed that the armed forces are actively taking the fight to the terrorists, making daily strides to achieve peace and security across the country.
The rise in kidnappings for ransom has brought attention to the sacrifices made by gallant troops combating terrorists, insurgents, and their cohorts nationwide.
General Buba urged an immediate turnaround of the situation, highlighting the military’s active pursuit of peace and security.
He emphasised that achieving enduring peace requires a collective effort, with everyone playing a role in creating a safer environment for citizens.
