In a recent development, the Judicial Service Commission in Nasarawa State has suspended Chief Magistrate Vincent W. Gwahemba following allegations of bribery and abuse of power.
The suspension, conveyed through a letter dated January 30th, 2024, instructs Gwahemba to respond within 24 hours to accusations of magisterial misconduct raised by senior lawyer J.S. Okutepa, SAN.
The letter outlines the immediate suspension pending the investigation of the charges.
Gwahemba is expected to present his side of the story before the Judicial Commission at a later date, as communicated by the Commission.
The allegations, documented in complaint number S/JSC/AD/OFF/12/VOL. XV/XXX, were addressed to the Chief Registrar of the state’s High Court of Justice.
The accusations include gross misconduct, bias, and issuing a ruling leading to the unjustifiable detention of a suspect.
This incident echoes a similar one in 2021 when the Judicial Service Commission suspended two senior officers, Mr. Abdullahi Ahmed-Sani, Chief Registrar, High Court of Justice, and Mr. Edward Ali-Liman, Deputy Chief Registrar (Personnel), for alleged misconduct.
