Soldiers have reportedly opened fire on suspected hoodlums who  seized control of trailers loaded with essential food supplies in the Suleja Area of Niger State.

The incident unfolded on Thursday,  as numerous trailers en route from Abuja to Kaduna found themselves obstructed by hoodlums who set ablaze tires on the road, creating chaos and halting the convoy.

According to eyewitness Alhassan Abdullahi, the perpetrators targeted various food items, with a particular focus on rice.

Abdullahi recounted the brazen act, stating that even as soldiers arrived at the scene and fired warning shots into the air, the hoodlums refused to disperse immediately.

He remarked, “It took the intervention of the soldiers to scare the hoodlums away, but despite that, a significant amount of food, including bags of rice and cartons of spaghetti, were still taken.”

In an unsettling development, reports suggest that the hoodlums persisted at the scene despite the military presence.

Abdullahi added, “We learned that commercial motorcycle riders are also contemplating a protest.

They were poised to act since yesterday, but the reasons behind the delay remain unclear.”

This incident is occurring against the backdrop of nationwide hardship, which has ignited protests in various parts of the country.
