In a proactive move against the surge of internet fraud, the Ilorin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) apprehended 48 students from Kwara State University (KWASU) and two residents of Malete in Kwara State.
The arrest, prompted by credible intelligence on the escalating ‘yahoo-yahoo’ activities, underscores EFCC’s commitment to curbing corruption within the state, particularly on university campuses.
Conducting discreet investigations and surveillance, EFCC operatives successfully tracked down and arrested the suspects in various hideouts on Wednesday.
The apprehended individuals, including Idris Yekini, Ayantola Segun, Adeshina Taheeb, and others, were found to be engaged in alleged internet fraud.
The seized items from the suspects comprised nine luxury cars, 24 laptops, and an assortment of mobile phones.
The EFCC stated that the suspects would face legal proceedings once the ongoing investigations conclude, emphasizing their dedication to purging the state of cybercrime activities.
