The Kaduna State Police, in collaboration with the military, have apprehended the alleged mastermind behind the heinous attack on St. Raphael Catholic Church in Kaduna State.
The suspect, identified as Saidu Yakubu, also known as “Ismail,” was taken into custody on Friday, March 22, 2024, as announced by ASP Mansir Hassan, the spokesperson for the Kaduna State Police Command.
The arrest comes in connection with the brutal assault that took place on September 7, 2023, at St. Raphael Catholic Church, Fadan Kamanta, Kafanchan Diocese, in the Jema’ah Local Government Area of Kaduna State. During the attack, the parish house was set ablaze, resulting in the tragic death of a seminarian named Na’aman Danladi.
According to ASP Mansir Hassan, the swift response of the Kaduna State Police Command, under the leadership of Commissioner Ali Dabigi, in collaboration with military personnel, played a pivotal role in apprehending the suspect.
Despite the distressing situation, authorities promptly mobilized to the scene upon receiving the alert from the Officer in Charge of Fadan Kamanta, Zonkwa.
Tragically, by the time security personnel arrived, the perpetrators had already set fire to the priest’s residence, causing extensive damage to property, including a Honda vehicle and a motorcycle. One seminarian lost his life in the blaze.
ASP Mansir Hassan emphasized the dedication and bravery exhibited by the police operatives, acknowledging their commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of Kaduna State residents.
Commissioner Ali Dabigi commended the swift and effective response to the distress call, underscoring the police force’s unwavering resolve to combat crime in the state.
As investigations continue, the public is reassured of the Kaduna State Police Command’s determination to uphold law and order, ensuring the safety and security of all residents.
