Armed bandits have  intercepted and looted a luxury bus en route to Easter celebrations in the southeast region .

The incident, which unfolded along the Ijebu Ode-Ore-Benin City expressway, saw a 59-seater bus operated by Ifesinachi Transport Ltd engulfed in flames, leaving passengers traumatized and stranded.

According to reports, the horrifying ordeal occurred in the early hours of Saturday at the Ogun State end of the road, as unsuspecting passengers fell prey to the assailants’ ambush.

In a distressing video shared on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) by influencer Chude Nnamdi, survivors recounted the harrowing experience. “Ifesinachi Motors, we were travelling in the night to come back to the East for Easter celebration, and criminals attacked us in Ijebu Ode along Ore/Benin expressway,” one passenger lamented.

The victims described how the bandits, armed and menacing, seized their belongings and subjected them to a terrifying ordeal. “They robbed us of everything we had, some they stripped half-naked.

They locked us inside the 59-seater luxury bus and set it ablaze,” another survivor recounted.

Despite the chaos, there were no reported casualties among the passengers, though many sustained injuries as they desperately sought to escape the inferno.

“We thank God that we later escaped; nobody died but everything we had was collected,” expressed one survivor, reflecting on the sheer horror of the attack.

“We thank God that we didn’t lose anyone but we lost everything we were travelling with and some sustained injuries,” echoed another.

Tragically, the attack left passengers, including small children, stranded and in need of assistance. “The people in the vehicle are completely stranded.

There are some people who were macheted and some who broke their legs,” revealed one survivor, highlighting the severity of the situation.

Amid the chaos, questions arise about the security measures along Nigeria’s highways, with passengers claiming they had been forewarned about the presence of robbers on the road.

However, their concerns went unheeded, leading to a tragic confrontation with the criminal elements.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for enhanced security measures to safeguard travellers during festive periods and beyond.
