Kanu’s Family Pleads With Southeast Govs Over Alleged Unlawful Detention, Deteriorating Health

The family of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has intensified their call for justice and urgent intervention as they raise alarms over Kanu’s purported unlawful detention and declining health.

In an open letter addressed to the South-East governors, the family alleges that Kanu is being wrongfully held against his will by the Nigerian government.

Expressing deep concern and urgency, one of Kanu’s brothers penned the letter, highlighting what they perceive as a grave injustice.

The family contends that Kanu, described as a law-abiding citizen and a prisoner of conscience, has had his fundamental human rights violated under the watch of the governors.

They implore the governors to take immediate action to challenge Kanu’s detention and rectify what they term as a systemic failure within the justice system.

“Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is a man of impeccable character and a strong advocate for justice, freedom, and equality,” the letter states.

“It is truly disheartening to witness his unwavering commitment to safeguarding human rights being met with such callousness and disregard for basic principles of justice.”

Furthermore, the family asserts that Kanu’s detention is politically motivated, aimed at suppressing his activism and preventing him from continuing his contributions to society.

They condemn what they perceive as a blatant violation of Kanu’s rights and urge the governors to fulfill their duty in protecting every individual’s civil liberties.

The letter demands immediate and decisive action to secure Kanu’s release, alongside a transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding his arrest and detention.

The family calls for accountability for those responsible for the alleged violations and insists that all charges against Kanu be dropped, citing a lack of substantiated evidence.

The family’s concerns are heightened by Kanu’s reported deteriorating health, with assertions that he is gravely ill and “dying slowly.”

They caution the governors that Biafra land will hold them accountable should anything happen to Kanu while in custody.
