The media office of former governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has responded to allegations from Kayode Akinmade, the special adviser to the Governor of Ogun State on Media, in what it describe as a “campaign of calumny” against Amosun and his administration.
This response comes amid ongoing controversy regarding the severance payments owed to former political appointees.
In a strongly worded statement, Lanre Akinwale, representing Amosun’s media office, expressed disbelief that the current administration, led by Governor Dapo Abiodun, would still evade its statutory responsibilities over five years into its term.
Akinwale criticised the present government for not fulfilling its obligations, including the payment of severance benefits to former appointees who served under Amosun.
“Amosun served the people of Ogun State selflessly, passionately, and committedly. His legacies are still noticeable across the nooks and crannies of the state, spanning different sectors,” Akinwale stated.
He urged the current administration to move past what he termed as the “pull him (Amosun) down syndrome” and focus on governance rather than political vendettas.
Akinwale highlighted that during Amosun’s tenure, severance benefits were paid to the appointees of his predecessor without requiring them to seek favor or resort to “begging, appeasing, worshiping and bootlicking.”
This, he emphasized, was in recognition of the continuous nature of governance and as part of Amosun’s responsibility to those who served.
The statement condemned the Abiodun administration’s directive to former appointees to seek their severance payments from Amosun.
This directive came despite the detailed handover notes provided to the current administration five years ago, which included information on these payments.
Akinwale suggested that the refusal to pay was a deliberate act of vendetta against those who served under Amosun.
“Time is ticking away,” Akinwale warned, advising the Abiodun administration to end the “politicking, blame game, and pull him down syndrome” and instead concentrate on delivering good governance to the people of Ogun State.
