The Yorubpressure group, Agbekoya Parapo, has  called on South-West governors to promote sustainable food production through mechanized farming to enhance the region’s agricultural output.

Agbekoya has also  thrown its support to President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

The group also advocated  the re-adoption of the 2014 National Confab resolutions, restructuring of the country, and a return to regional governance.

In a statement issued  in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, on Wednesday, Agbekoya called for the establishment of State Police and the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra.

The release was presented by the group’s National President, Aare Adekunle Oshodi, accompanied by the National Chairman, Prof. Ademola Onibonokuta, Secretary-General, Chief Kunle Adelakun Eruobodo, and other leaders at the National Secretariat in Ibadan.

The group expressed deep concern over the economic challenges facing Nigeria, attributing some of the difficulties to the Northern oligarchy’s opposition to the current administration’s agenda.

“We have been closely monitoring the economic and political situation since President Bola Tinubu took office.

While we are dissatisfied with the current state of the nation, we remain hopeful that Tinubu will address the economic challenges decisively,” the communique stated.

Reflecting on the tenure of former President Muhammadu Buhari, Agbekoya criticized the perceived favoritism towards the North and the widespread corruption during his administration.

“The Northerners, particularly the Fulani oligarchy, remained silent during Buhari’s eight-year tenure, despite the evident maladministration and skewed distribution of national resources,” the group lamented.

The statement also accused Northern political elites of prematurely criticizing Tinubu’s administration and plotting against his leadership.

“These same elites are now conspiring against President Tinubu, forgetting his unwavering support for Buhari during his presidency,” the statement read.

Agbekoya underscored several critical issues needing urgent attention, including the 1999 Constitution, the 2014 National Confab, restructuring, regional government, and the self-determination agitations from various regions such as Biafra, Niger Delta, and Oduduwa Republic.

The group highlighted disparities in the educational system between the North and the South and called for the establishment of State Police to address security concerns effectively.

“We urge President Tinubu to thoroughly examine and address these pressing issues to ensure peace and stability.

“We also appeal to the Federal Government to release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and other detained freedom fighters and agitators,” the group stated.
