Abeokuta South LG 2024 On The Threshold Of History

Today, I, Afolabi Oladapo Ogundimu, declare my intention to contest for the Chairmanship of Abẹ́òkúta South Local Government. This decision follows personal reflection and extensive consultations with our party leadership, driven by a deep commitment to transformative change.

As a proud Egba man, I recognize the truism that “ká tó fi ènìyàn jẹ́ oyè, ó ní láti jẹ ẹni irè!” Our local government deserves courageous, innovative leadership that delivers responsible and inclusive governance.

Our dear local government has played pivotal roles in Nigeria’s and Ogun State’s development, thanks to our fathers and forebears, including:

– Hon. Justice Adetokunbo Ademola, first indigenous Chief Justice of Nigeria
– Chief Rotimi Williams QC, SAN, first Queen Counsel in Nigeria
– Mr. Akintola Williams FCA, first Chartered Accountant in Nigeria
– Professor Wole Soyinka, first Nobel Laureate in Africa
– Madam Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, first woman to drive a car in Nigeria
– Olusegun Osoba, Journalist and former Governor of Ogun State.
– Oladimeji Bankole, former Speaker, Federal House of Representatives
– Iyalode Alaba Lawson, first President of NACCIMA
– Rt. Hon Títí Sodunke-Oseni, First female Speaker in Nigeria
– Simeon Adebo, accomplished public administrator
– Fela Anikulapo Kuti
– Chief Commander Ebenezer Obey

As a local government with a rich historical background, we cannot afford to dim our shining light by pushing forward less competent or people of immodest character. Our honor lies in recognizing our past to build a better and prosperous Abẹ́òkúta South Local Government. Indeed, this is our finest moment to set our Local Government on the paths of growth and development. History beckons on us!

My ambition is a principled decision driven by a burning passion for transformative leadership. I believe it’s time to build on our leaders’ legacies with renewed passion for redefining grassroots governance.

My transformative vision is built on four agendas:

– Infrastructural Development
– Human Capital Development
– Qualitative and affordable Primary Health Care service
– Security

These agendas are based on NEEDS Assessment of our People, and in alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope and Prince Dapo Abiodun’s Building Our Future Together Agenda in Ogun State.

I pay homage to our leaders who have contributed immensely to our local government’s development, including:

– Late Chief Mrs Titi Àjànàkú
– Mr. Anthony Oniyitan
– Chief Segun Taiwo
– Chief Lekan Akiode
– Chief Olú Ọdẹyemi
– Mrs. Isikalu Módúpẹ́ọ̀la
– Alhaji Tajudeen Lemboye
– Balogun Nurudeen Olaleye
– Chief Kehinde Sotomi
– Hon. Semiu Sodipo
– Alhaji Mukaila Adewale
– Pastor Donaldson Abiodun Ajayi
– Chief Akeem Odejimi
– Prince Yanjú Lipede
– Alhaji Dúró Olawoyin
– Hon. Lanre Edun
– Hon. Olusola Ekundayo
– Hon. Lukmon Shonekan
– Hon. Ayodeji Somide
– Hon. Omolaja Ayodele Majekodunmi

In conclusion, Frantz Fanon once said, “Every generation must, out of relative obscurity betray or fulfill its destiny”. I urge you to join me on this worthwhile journey of hope, discovery and new dawn. Let’s work together to reshape our destinies and rewrite our story, line by lines.

Thank you.

Hon. Afolabi Oladapo OGUNDIMU
