Amidst the growing economic challenges facing the nation, Pastor Anthony Ogbebor, the Chaplain of the Neuropsychiatric Hospital and Pastor-in-Charge of Mount Zion Christian Faith Assembly, has urged Nigerians to seek divine intervention.
He called on all Christian communities to unite in prayer and support during these trying times, emphasizing the need for collective faith and action.
Pastor Ogbebor made these remarks during the 26th edition of the Re-union Retreat Programme organized by the Mount Zion Christian Faith Assembly, which commenced on Friday, August 30th, and will conclude on Sunday, September 1st, 2024.
The retreat, an annual spiritual gathering, has become a platform for deep reflection and renewal among Christians, focusing this year on the theme of the Holy Spirit.
In his address, Pastor Ogbebor underscored the importance of acknowledging God’s sovereignty over the universe, urging Nigerians to cry out to Him for help in the nation’s current economic difficulties.
“Nigerians should recognize God as the controller of the universe and cry for help over the situation of the country.
“He has the capacity to turn things around,” he stated.
The cleric also highlighted the alarming division within the Christian community, calling for greater unity.
He drew a parallel between the unity of the Trinity and the harmony that should exist among Christians, stressing that such unity is crucial for the progress of the Church and the nation.
“Let’s be united,” Pastor Ogbebor urged.
“The Christian community as it stands today has been grossly divided. We should be united. If Christians in this hospital donate ₦5,000 each, this building would have been completed. We are not united, and this is our father’s business and projects. It’s for all of us. If we are united, things will work for the better.”
Beyond the call for unity, Pastor Ogbebor encouraged Nigerians to turn away from sinful behaviors and seek God’s forgiveness through prayer and repentance.
He emphasized that sin is a significant barrier to receiving God’s blessings and interventions.
Reflecting on the history of the Re-union Retreat Programme, Pastor Ogbebor expressed gratitude for the many testimonies of God’s faithfulness and miraculous interventions that have marked the event over the years.
He highlighted the transformative impact the programme has had on participants, both spiritually and physically.
“Over the years, God has been wonderful. We have several people saved in the programme, and many of them are doing well all over the world.
We have ministers raised from this programme,” he said.
He recounted specific instances of divine healing, including a lecturer and Reverend Doctor at the Nigeria Baptist Theological Seminary in Ogbomoso who experienced a profound spiritual visitation during one of the retreats.
He also shared the testimony of a young woman who, after 23 years of suffering from bedwetting, was healed during the 2008 edition of the programme.
Looking ahead to this year’s retreat, Pastor Ogbebor expressed his high expectations for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit, the central theme of the event.
He described the Holy Spirit as the “voice of God to man,” capable of delivering, healing, and restoring those who seek His presence.
“We are trusting Him. We know He is God, the baptiser, and He comes with diverse gifts. So, we are expecting Him to speak to every participant, whether online or physically,” Pastor Ogbebor affirmed.
“We are expecting unusual miracles because He is the one behind the miraculous work of God. We are expecting Him to transform lives.”
