Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun says the present administration has made substantial investment and unwavering commitment to education in the State.
The administration’s dedication has not only made the education sector functional but has also yielded results that foster seamless academic activities across all educational institutions in the state.
Represented by Deputy Governor, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, Governor Abiodun at the 32nd and 33rd joint Convocation ceremonies of Olabisi Onabanjo University Ago-Iwoye.
He underscored the deliberate efforts of his administration to prioritize education, evident in the incorporation of a five-point agenda.
Notable measures include timely approval and disbursement of monthly subvention to state tertiary institutions, providing bailout funds to address financial challenges, and ensuring accreditation of courses.
Abiodun assured continued support by donating two million naira each to the Overall Best Graduating students for the 2021 and 2022 academic sessions, with an additional incentive of N500,000.00 for the best-graduating student in each faculty.
Recognizing Olabisi Onabanjo University as a beacon of knowledge, he commended the institution for instilling academic excellence and moral values in its students.
The Pro-Chancellor of the University, Dr. Toyin Ashiru, credited the institution’s strides to the support of the state government, governing council, management, and students.
Dr. Ashiru disclosed that 10 developmental programs, validated by the Nigerian University Commission (NUC), were introduced, marking a significant milestone in the university’s history.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ayodeji Agboola expressed gratitude to the state government for its contributions to the institution’s growth.
He highlighted the establishment of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a research-intensive university and improvements in entrepreneurship programs, culminating in 15,428 graduates from both first and second degrees.
During the Valedictory Speech, Dr. Oluwakemi Kalejaiye, representing post-graduate students, extended appreciation to Almighty God, the Vice-Chancellor, management, and lecturers for their contributions to the programme’s success.
She emphasized the institution’s role in broadening their horizons to face future challenges.
The ceremony concluded with the conferment of honorary doctorates on the Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Ajayi, and Dr. (Mrs.) Mosun Olusoga, adding a prestigious highlight to the event.
