In a significant operation, troops from the Joint Task Force, Operation Hadarin, have apprehended three suspected gun runners in Zamfara State.

Among those arrested is Aminu Ibrahim, alleged to be the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Ward Chairman for Birnin Yero Ward in the Shinkafi local government area.

According to information obtained from a military intelligence source in the state, Ibrahim, along with his accomplices, Musa Usman Seun and Isah Mohammed, were apprehended on Monday.

The military source revealed, “The troops of the Joint Task Force North West Operation HADARIN, acting on credible intelligence regarding the activities of a notorious gunrunner with intentions to smuggle arms into Zamfara state, immediately set up a roadblock and apprehended 3 suspected persons.”

The suspects were identified as Musa Usman Seun, Aminu Ibrahim, and Isah Mohammed, and they were arrested on January 22, 2024, in Shinkafi.

During the operation, Two Million Five Hundred and Eighty Thousand Naira, 1 Volkswagen Wagon, 3 mobile phones, and other items were recovered from the suspects.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the substantial amount of money recovered from the suspects was intended for the exchange of assorted weapons at the Illela border in Sokoto state.

The suspects are currently undergoing further interrogation.

The arrest of the alleged PDP chairman, Aminu Ibrahim, among others, is expected to enhance the efforts of the Nigerian Army in curbing the activities of individuals involved in gun running and banditry.

PLATFORM TIMES gathered that this development underscores the ongoing commitment of the military in ensuring the security and well-being of the citizens in Zamfara State and the North West region.
