Atiku, El-Rufai’s Coalition Move Against Tinubu Selfish, PDP Not Ready For 2027 Poll – Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has described efforts by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, to form a coalition against President Bola Tinubu as selfish.

Wike stated this during a media chat on Friday, accusing the duo and others championing the coalition of pursuing personal ambitions rather than national interest.

“Those who are looking for a coalition are doing so for selfish interests — the likes of Atiku and other people. Which coalition, and with whom?” he queried.

The former Rivers State governor questioned why Atiku was focused on forming a coalition instead of rebuilding the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, which he said was currently in disarray.

“Everybody wants to become president. Nobody is thinking of building the party to become a formidable opposition,” he said.

Wike warned that the PDP was not prepared for the 2027 general elections, adding that internal crises and misplaced priorities were undermining its prospects.

“You made the mistake yesterday, you want to repeat it today, then tomorrow again. Later you come out to say you were rigged out — who rigged you? You rigged yourself by causing crisis,” he said.

According to him, the PDP’s current posture reflects a lack of genuine preparedness for the next electoral contest.

“You don’t need to deceive anybody that you’re preparing. Just carrying your bag to class doesn’t mean you’re reading,” he added.

Wike’s comments come amid reports of a planned coalition by opposition leaders, including Atiku and El-Rufai, who recently defected from the APC to the Social Democratic Party.
