The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has called on Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to immediately release former Governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa. The party’s Deputy National Youth Leader, Timothy Osadolor, made the call at a news conference on Tuesday in Abuja. Operatives of the anti-graft agency had confirmed the arrest of Okowa, the PDP vice-presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections. Former US President and Republican candidate, Donald Trump said he would be prepared to concede defeat after Tuesday’s vote if the election was fair. Trump stated this even as he once again raised concerns about the use of electronic voting machines. “If I lose an election, if it’s a fair election, I would be the first one to acknowledge it. The Federal Government, through the Bank of Industry, BOI, is set to inject N1 billion in loans to support 1,000 Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) across Bauchi State. Speaking in Bauchi on Tuesday, BOI Project Officer Kabir Saidu Musa explained that the application process is open, urging entrepreneurs to apply online for up to N1 million in funding at https://fgnboimsmeintervention.boi.ng. About 103 communities in Ahoada West LGA of Rivers State have suffered severe flooding following a combination of heavy rainfall and a massive overflow of the Orashi River. It was gathered that in Akinima, headquarters of the LGA, many homes and farms have almost been completely submerged by the floodwaters. Some of the affected communities include Mbiama, Akinima, Engenni, and Enedua, among others. The Chief Press Secretary of Ahoada West LGA, Esedi Joe, said the council was overwhelmed, adding that it is seeking assistance from the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, and international agencies.

An Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court on Monday sentenced an Islamic cleric, Alani Rafiu, to life imprisonment for defiling a 14-year-old year girl (name withheld). In his judgement, Justice Rahman Oshodi held that the prosecution proved each of the ingredients of defilement against Rafiu. Oshodi said that the gravity of the convict’s offence could not be overstated as he betrayed the trust placed on him as a religious instructor and family friend.
