National Universities Commission has presented provisional licences to 37 new private universities that were recently approved by the Federal Executive Council . The universities were granted approval by former president Muhammadu Buhari administration shortly before the end of his administration. The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have asked the court to vacate the order restraining them from embarking on a nationwide strike over the removal of petrol subsidy. The National Industrial Court of Nigeria, Abuja division, had on Monday restrained the unions from embarking on the planned strike pending the hearing and determination of the ex parte motion filed by the federal government. Unknown gunmen have allegedly abducted four persons including a vigilante, who tried to rescue the victims who were returning from a naming ceremony in Kwara State. There are strong indications that about 45,000 Nigerians who paid the 2023 hajj fares may miss the pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia over visa issues. It was gathered that, in the last two weeks, the affected intending pilgrims could not secure visas due to the delay in the remittance of their hajj fares to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON). Unknown gunmen have shot a Catholic priest, Charles Igechi, dead in Edo State. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, on Thursday, arraigned the Sub Treasurer in the office of Accountant General of Katsina State, Saadu Maiwada and Deputy Sub Treasurer , Sani Lawal before Justice Musa Danladi of the Katsina State High Court on a five-count charge of conspiracy and criminal breach of trust.
