The Federal Government on Thursday received no fewer than 270 Nigerian returnees evacuated from South Africa, as concerns mount over rising xenophobic tensions in the country. The returnees were received in Lagos by officials of the National Emergency Management Agency under the Federal Government’s voluntary repatriation programme. The House of Representatives on Thursday passed a bill seeking to establish state police, a move considered a major step towards decentralising Nigeria’s policing structure in response to worsening insecurity across the country.
