Suspected bandits have launched a deadly reprisal attack on Tafoki village in the Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State, killing several residents and dumping their corpses at the community entrance in a chilling show of brutality.
The attackers, believed to be mostly in their 20s, reportedly stormed the village on April 9, executing abducted villagers and leaving their lifeless bodies deliberately positioned at the gateway to the town.
Sources from the community linked the gruesome attack to the killing of three bandits — including a notorious gang leader known as Goje — during a botched attempt to raid the village in February.
“The attack is clearly retaliation,” a resident told Sahara Reporters.
“They now abduct people, tie their hands behind their backs, shoot them in the head, and return the bodies to our village entrance like a warning.”
According to eyewitness accounts, families have been left traumatised, often having to retrieve decomposing bodies of loved ones killed in cold blood.
The recent killings have heightened fears in the area, where attacks by bandits have become a near-daily occurrence.
“There is hardly a day that passes without banditry attacks around here,” another resident lamented. “It’s always deaths, destruction, and theft of property.”
The situation has persisted despite official claims by authorities that the activities of terrorists in the region have been significantly decimated.
However, the reality on the ground suggests otherwise, as communities like Tafoki continue to bear the brunt of renewed assaults.
Efforts to get official comments from security agencies in the state were unsuccessful as of press time. Meanwhile, residents are calling for urgent and decisive intervention to end the cycle of bloodshed and protect rural communities from further attacks.
