Suspected bandits have launched a deadly assault on four communities in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, leaving 14 farmers reportedly dead .

The affected villages – Aba Alajido, Aba Sunday, Aba Pastor, and Ademekun – predominantly home to local farmers, fell victim to the ruthless attackers.

According to local sources and police reports, the assailants struck under the cover of darkness, descending on the unsuspecting communities in the dead of night.

By the time security forces were alerted and mobilized, the aftermath was grim: at least fourteen lives lost, with many more feared missing or injured.

Sunday, a resident of one of the affected communities, recounted the horror: “They attacked our communities on Friday night when everyone was asleep.

“They opened fire indiscriminately, sending people fleeing into the bush for safety. Over 40 lives have been lost, and many more are unaccounted for.”

Regent Adelowo Adekemisola of Ademekun Community expressed deep sorrow over the incident, highlighting the ongoing struggle with herdsmen incursions in the area.

“Fourteen innocent lives were snuffed out by these marauders who came from the Edo-Ondo boundaries,” she lamented, urging urgent intervention from state authorities and security agencies.

In response to the heinous attack, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, the police spokesperson, assured that investigations were underway.

“The command has launched a comprehensive operation to restore peace and bring the perpetrators to justice,” she affirmed.
