PLATFORM TIMES has announced the expansion of its newsroom with the establishment of a dedicated Artificial Intelligence (AI) Desk, as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen technology-driven journalism, investigative reporting, verification and public-interest coverage.
The new desk will broaden PLATFORM TIMES’ coverage of the rapidly evolving AI ecosystem, including artificial intelligence, machine learning, emerging technologies, cybersecurity, digital safety, data protection, misinformation, automation and their growing impact on governance, business, education, health, the media and everyday life.
The expansion is also designed to deepen PLATFORM TIMES’ capacity to investigate and explain the opportunities, risks and societal implications of emerging technologies in Nigeria and across Africa.
As part of the initiative, PLATFORM TIMES has begun forging strategic collaborations with experts, institutions, establishments, technology communities and individuals working in and around Artificial Intelligence and related fields, with additional partnerships currently at various stages of development.
The newspaper has already established a collaboration with Dr Jide Ebenezer Taiwo Akinsola (JET), Ph.D., a researcher and academic with expertise in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Big Data Analytics, as well as cybersecurity, cyber-threat modelling, data security, digital forensics, blockchain and cryptography.
Dr Akinsola is a Computer Science lecturer at First Technical University, Ibadan, with research and scholarly publications covering AI, cybersecurity, machine learning, data security and related emerging technologies.
The collaboration is expected to provide opportunities for expert insights, knowledge exchange, capacity development, research, verification and specialised reporting on emerging technologies and their implications for society.
AI News, Special Reports And Opinions
Under the new initiative, AI-related news reports, Special Reports, investigative stories, expert analyses, opinion articles, features and other editorial contents will be published on the PLATFORM TIMES and PLATFORM TIMES Investigative Journalism Foundation (PTIJF) websites, providing dedicated platforms for public education and informed conversations on Artificial Intelligence and emerging technologies.
The AI Desk will also seek to amplify the voices of researchers, technology experts, innovators, entrepreneurs, policymakers, educators, cybersecurity professionals, young people and communities whose work and lives are being affected by the rapid development of AI.
The Editor of PLATFORM TIMES, Daud Olatunji, said the creation of the AI Desk was a deliberate response to the changing nature of journalism and the increasing influence of artificial intelligence on information, society and democratic life.
According to him, the initiative is not about replacing journalism with technology, but about equipping journalists with the knowledge, tools and expert networks required to practise credible, responsible and future-ready journalism.
Olatunji said PLATFORM TIMES would continue to uphold the principles of accuracy, accountability, fairness, independence, human oversight and public interest while exploring the opportunities offered by emerging technologies.
He added that the newspaper would pay particular attention to the Nigerian and African contexts, ensuring that conversations around Artificial Intelligence go beyond technology companies and laboratories to examine its implications for ordinary citizens, institutions, businesses, governments and communities.
PLATFORM TIMES said more partnerships and initiatives under the AI Desk would be unveiled as discussions with other experts, institutions, establishments and technology communities progress.
