A 30-year-old businessman, Onyedikachi Ibe, was handed a two-month community service sentence by the Dei-dei Grade I Area Court in Abuja.
Operating from the Fruits Market, Zuba, Ibe pleaded guilty to receiving stolen property when he appeared before Judge Saminu Suleiman.
The judge, basing the conviction on Ibe’s admission of guilt and the prosecution’s case, directed the businessman to serve his community service at the Zuba Police Station.
Judge Suleiman emphasized the importance of reform and warned Ibe to steer clear of criminal activities, urging him to maintain good behavior.
The case unfolded when Kingsley Issac, arrested for theft on February 17 in Zuba, implicated Ibe in the crime. According to Prosecution Counsel Babajide Olanipekun, Issac revealed that he sold stolen sandals to Ibe for N1,000.
Police investigations led to the recovery of the stolen sandals from Ibe, resulting in the charge under Section 317 of the Penal Code.
