Prophet Godwin Ojerinde stood before a Magistrate Court in Isabo, Abeokuta, facing allegations of assaulting one of his female tenants in Owode Egba, Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The accusations against him include stripping and physically attacking Mrs. Tunrayo Saheed, a tenant under his care.

According to Mrs. Motunrayo Saheed, who detailed the incident, Ojerinde initiated the altercation due to his disapproval of her apprentices working in the shop he had rented out to her.

PLATFORM TIMES gathered that the event, which occurred on March 19, 2024, unfolded dramatically when the landlord confronted Mrs. Saheed and subsequently resorted to violence, leaving her clothes torn and her dignity violated.

In her testimony, Mrs. Saheed recounted the ordeal, stating, “Just as the landlord left my premises after our discussion, he returned abruptly, barging into my room and subjecting me to physical assault until I was left naked.”

Despite reporting the incident to the Owode Egba police station, she expressed disappointment at the response received, citing insufficient action taken by law enforcement agents .

Driven by the threat of further harm and seeking justice, Mrs. Saheed pursued legal recourse, bringing her case before the court.

She emphasized the severity of the threat made by Ojerinde, alleging that he asserted, “What Money Cannot Do Does Not Exist.”

However, the defendant, represented by J.B. Ogundipe, countered the allegations, insinuating that Mrs. Saheed had demanded a sum of five million naira during the initial police investigation—a claim vehemently denied by the plaintiff .

Amidst the legal proceedings, the magistrate presiding over the case adjourned proceedings to June 18, 2024, following heated arguments from both sides.
