The newly posted Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Aderemi Adeoye, has removed the Divisional Police Officer ‘A’ Division, Awka, from office.
He was removed following complaints that his men invaded, arrested, and extorted innocent passers-by in the Aroma area of the state capital .
Adeoye said he could not tolerate his men going against the rule of the game.
Adeoye siad he will never tolerate harassment or extortion of the public.
“We will not tolerate where our men go to bus stops and arrest people returning from work, drinking joints, and beer parlours trying to drown their hardship with a bottle of beer.
“Somebody who does not earn N20,000 a month and you ask him to pay N20,000 for bail. We condemn such conduct and we will descend hard on any officer involved in such malfeasance.”
He said that despite the removal of the DPO, the investigation is still on, and in the end, if the allegations are proven further sanctions would apply to those involved.
