A shocking incident involving the abduction of a two-year-old boy by a local couple, Abubakar and Salamatu Saidu, has sent shockwaves through the Orange Market area of Mararaba, Karu Local Government Area (LGA) in Nasarawa State.
The abductors demanded a ransom of N2.5 million from the young child’s distraught parents.
The successful arrest and recovery of the abducted boy were announced by Ranhan Nansel, a Deputy Superintendent of Police and the Public Relations Officer of the Nasarawa State Command, during a press briefing held in Lafia.
Nansel, speaking on behalf of Commissioner of Police Baba Maiyaki, revealed that the child was successfully rescued from Salamatu Abubakar in Katsina State, where he had been transported by his captors.
The investigation revealed that Abubakar Saidu, a neighbor of the victim’s family, had orchestrated the abduction in conspiracy with the suspects.
Abubakar’s wife, Salamatu Abubakar, played a role in the criminal act by transporting the child to Katsina State.
Both the abductors, Yusuf Yusuf and Haruna Garba, have confessed to their involvement in the crime and identified their neighbor, Abubakar Saidu, as the mastermind behind the abduction.
Abubakar Saidu is actively cooperating with the police and providing crucial information regarding the incident.
The ongoing investigation aims to determine the appropriate course of action.
Addressing the broader achievements of the Nasarawa State Command in the past month, the Public Relations Officer highlighted the successful arrest of ten kidnappers, seven armed robbers, a cultist, and an additional individual during the period.
As part of these arrests, law enforcement authorities managed to recover three firearms and eleven ammunitions from the suspects.
The captured suspects are reportedly linked to criminal activities spanning various regions including Karu, Awe, Gitata, and Lafia, the capital city of Nasarawa State.
The swift and efficient actions of law enforcement personnel have led to the apprehension of the culprits, the safe return of the abducted child to his parents, and the potential dismantling of a criminal network responsible for causing distress within the community.
