The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has lauded Dangote Sugar Refinery for its monumental investment in the Federal Government’s Backward Integration Policy (BIP), describing its impact on job creation as transformative.
Director-General of the NDE, Silas Agara, made this commendation during his visit to the Dangote Group’s pavilion at the ongoing Kano International Trade Fair.
He praised the company’s Chairman, Aliko Dangote, for his unparalleled commitment to achieving sugar self-sufficiency in Nigeria, which he said serves as a benchmark for others to emulate.
Agara highlighted Dangote Sugar’s investment of over $700 million in the BIP, aimed at reducing Nigeria’s dependence on sugar imports worth over $337 million annually.
The initiative, according to him, has not only spurred job creation but has also revolutionized local economies by fostering infrastructural development in project communities.
“Dangote Sugar in Tunga, Awe Local Government of Nasarawa State, has significantly improved the livelihoods of the people,” Agara said.
“It has created job opportunities for teeming youths and uplifted the socio-economic status of the area. Nasarawa is proud of Aliko Dangote. Tunga Sugar is a spinner for Nigeria’s economy.”
The NDE boss, a former Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State, emphasized the importance of Dangote’s commitment to Nigeria’s sugar industry, urging the business mogul to strengthen community engagement and collaborate more with stakeholders to enhance development in host communities.
He further acknowledged the positive reception of the Tunga Sugar project, noting that the communities have benefited immensely from Dangote Sugar’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
“There isn’t any dissenting voice on Tunga Sugar. The communities have enjoyed growth and development through the company’s CSR strategies,” he added.
