The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, Wale Abass, has handed over cheques totaling N110,484,291.91 to the grieving families of 36 police officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.

The emotional event underscored the commitment of the police force to recognizing and honouring the sacrifices made by its officers for the nation’s peace and stability.

Abass, in a solemn address, emphasized the significance of the financial support being provided to the bereaved families.

“These cheques are issued on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, and are part of the IGP Family Welfare and Group Life Assurance schemes,” he stated.

The Commissioner urged the recipients to utilize the funds judiciously, acknowledging that the financial assistance aimed to alleviate the burdens borne by the families of the fallen officers.

The Inspector General of Police, through Commissioner Abass, expressed gratitude for the generosity that made this assistance possible.

“I want to appreciate the IGP’s generosity for this kind gesture. I know that the cheques will help the families tremendously and serve as a reminder that even if their loved ones are no longer with them, the sacrifices they made can never be forgotten,” Commissioner Abass remarked.

Isioma Ogabu, representing the beneficiaries and serving as the next of kin to the late Inspector Ogabu Ndidi, spoke emotionally on behalf of the families.

She conveyed deep appreciation to the Inspector General of Police for the thoughtful gesture, acknowledging the financial aid as a lifeline during challenging times. “We are grateful for the support extended to us during this difficult period.

This gesture reaffirms the bond between the police force and the families of those who gave their lives in service to the nation,” she expressed.

The ceremony not only provided financial relief but also served as a poignant moment to reflect on the sacrifices made by police officers in safeguarding the community.

The families, amidst their grief, found solace in the recognition of their loved ones’ contributions to the peace and stability of the country.

The event concluded with a sense of unity and appreciation, highlighting the enduring connection between the police force and the families of its fallen heroes.
