In the aftermath of their release from a harrowing kidnapping ordeal, five pupils and three teachers from the Apostolic Faith Groups of School in Emure-Ekiti are now undergoing intensive trauma treatment.

The victims, freed by their abductors in the early hours of Sunday, February 4, are currently hospitalized and receiving specialized care at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital in Ado-Ekiti.

Upon directives from the Governor, Ekiti’s Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Oyebanji Filani, accompanied by ministry officials, facilitated the transfer of the students and teachers from Emure-Ekiti to the hospital.

Prof. Kayode Kayode Olabanji, the Chief Medical Director of EKSUTH, informed our reporter that medical examinations have commenced to assess the health condition of the eight victims.

Prof. Olabanji emphasized the focus on medical and therapeutic treatment to alleviate the psychological trauma resulting from the kidnapping experience.

He assured the public that the victims are clinically stable, receiving attentive care from a multidisciplinary team of medical personnel.

“Immediately we brought them in, they had been attended to by a multidisciplinary team of medical personnel.

We brought in psychologists to allay their fears, provided initial resuscitation, rehydration, and oxygen to those in need. Now, they are much better, and we will conduct further investigations,” stated Prof. Olabanji confidently.

Governor Oyebanji, who visited EKSUTH shortly after returning from Abuja, interacted with each victim at the Accident and Emergency Ward.

While congratulating them on regaining freedom, the Governor assured the public that the perpetrators would be apprehended and punished accordingly.

Expressing condolences for the death of the abducted pupils’ bus driver, Mr. Taiwo Olugbaye, reportedly killed by the kidnappers, Governor Oyebanji pledged relentless efforts to bring the criminals to justice.

He conveyed his commitment to addressing not only the recent kidnapping but also the killing of two traditional rulers in the state, stating, “We will not leave any stone unturned in the bid to apprehend the criminals.”
