Federal Government Launches Manhunt For Fleeing Binance Executive

The Federal Government has initiated a manhunt for Nadeem Anjarwalla, an executive of Binance, who escaped from custody. The Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) confirmed Anjarwalla’s flight, stating that he fled on Friday.

Zakari Mijinyawa, Head of Strategic Communication at ONSA, announced in a statement on Monday that preliminary investigations revealed Anjarwalla left Nigeria using a smuggled passport. Efforts are underway, in collaboration with relevant security agencies and international partners, to locate and apprehend the suspect. Interpol has been engaged to secure an international arrest warrant for Anjarwalla.

Mijinyawa revealed that individuals responsible for Anjarwalla’s custody have been detained, and a thorough investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding his escape. The statement reiterated the Nigerian government’s commitment to investigating money laundering and terrorism financing activities on the Binance platform.

Until his escape, Anjarwalla, a British and Kenyan citizen serving as Binance’s Africa regional manager, was undergoing trial in Nigerian courts. He absconded while under a 14-day remand order, with his next court appearance scheduled for April 4, 2024.

The statement urged both Nigerians and the international community to provide any information that could aid in Anjarwalla’s arrest.
