In a significant development, the Illorin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) has successfully convicted a 26-year-old forex trader, Kolawole Joshua, and two other individuals, Abdullahi Isiak and Daniel Orji, for their involvement in internet fraud.

The EFCC made this announcement via their official social media handle, and the convictions were handed down by Justice Mahmoud Abdulgafar of the Kwara State High Court in Ilorin.

Kolawole Joshua, Abdullahi Isiak, and Daniel Orji, who were arrested at different locations in the state, pleaded guilty to one-count separate charges related to internet fraud. Joshua’s charge involved personation and cheating, where he posed as “Mia Phillips” via a Google Voice account to deceive Daniel Murphy and induce him to part with $400 through gift cards.

Justice Abdulgafar found all three defendants guilty and convicted them as charged. Kolawole Joshua received a six-month prison sentence with an option to pay a fine of N500,000. The court also ordered the forfeiture of an iPhone 12 and $200, proceeds of the crime, to the federal government.

Abdullahi Isiak was sentenced to six months imprisonment, which was suspended, and his iPhone 12 Pro Max, used as an instrument of crime, was ordered to be forfeited to the Federal Government.
