In a remarkable effort to combat poverty and empower young women, the Moses Adekoyejo Majekodunmi (MAM) Foundation has trained six out-of-school girls in Ogun State in various skills such as fashion design, catering, and hairdressing.

PLATFORM TIMES reports that the  initiative not only equips the girls with essential skills but also provides them with starter packs, equipment, and cash to establish their businesses.

Meanwhile, the  Foundation has inducted nine more individuals to receive similar training in the coming year.

Dr. Mrs. Bolaji Fati, the Executive Director of the MAM Foundation, highlighted the comprehensive support provided to the girls.

She said beyond training in their chosen skills, the Foundation ensured that the girls received monthly allowances, transportation fees, and practical fees to facilitate optimal learning conditions.

Dr. Fati said “Empowering these out-of-school girls economically is pivotal.

“This training not only enhances their personal development but also positions them to contribute to their families and communities, thereby reducing poverty in the state.”

“For the past seven years, the MAM Foundation’s out-of-school programme has been transforming lives.

“We focus on girls who have dropped out or chosen not to attend school, training them in what they love to do.

“This economic empowerment is crucial, especially for women who face significant economic challenges in our country.

“Once a girl is trained, she multiplies the benefits, supporting her family and ensuring her siblings receive education.”

She stated that the newly inaugurated set of nine girls will undergo a one-year training programme  in either catering or fashion design.

Throughout this period, the Foundation will cover their transportation, incidental costs, and trainers’ fees.

Dr. Fati expressed hope that this initiative would significantly reduce poverty levels in Ogun State.

Dr. Fati urged the beneficiaries to take full advantage of this opportunity.

She said “start making conversations about what you are doing. By sharing your journey and skills, you will find unique opportunities and achieve progress and success.”

One of the beneficiaries, Ruth Okefuro, shared her joy and gratitude.

She said  “catering has been my passion since primary school. Despite my efforts, financial constraints hindered my progress. Thanks to the MAM Foundation, my dream has come true.”

Similarly, Adedeji Pelumi expressed her disbelief and gratitude.

She stated  “I never thought I could become a fashionista, but the MAM Foundation made it possible. I am truly grateful.”

Mrs. Folashade Odeyemi, Director of Bliss Couture, encouraged the beneficiaries and newly inducted girls to seize this opportunity.

She advised   “embrace the name given to you – liberated and successful. Be ready to learn and transform from vulnerability to liberation.”
