A suburb in Kubwa, Byhazin, witnessed scenes of chaos and violence as a group of hoodlums launched an attack on residents, leaving many injured.

The incident, which occurred on Tuesday night, stemmed from an attempted theft by scavengers, locally known as Bababola, who tried to steal a pot of food from a roadside restaurant at Millionaires Quarters.

According to eyewitnesses, the restaurant owner raised the alarm upon sighting the scavengers, prompting passersby and customers to intervene and apprehend the suspects.

Although the scavengers managed to escape being lynched, the thwarted theft angered them, leading to a retaliatory attack on the estate.

The reprisal attack escalated into a violent confrontation, with both residents and hoodlums sustaining injuries.

Reports indicate that the mayhem lasted for hours, with residents fleeing in fear as gunshots echoed through the neighborhood.

The situation disrupted vehicular and human movements, prompting the intervention of the Divisional Police Officer in Byhazin, who deployed officers to restore order.

Despite efforts to quell the violence, tensions remained high, as some youth threatened further attacks on the community.

Consequently, many offices and shops remained closed, and the streets and local market were deserted as residents braced for potential reprisals.

Speaking  some residents appealed for urgent intervention from the police and relevant authorities, expressing concerns about their safety and well-being.

However, attempts to reach the FCT Police Spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, for comment were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
