The Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) has provided details surrounding the sudden and tragic demise of one of its students, Ayomide Akeredolu.

The student passed away after collapsing in his hostel on Thursday.

FUTA’s management revealed that Ayomide Akeredolu had been unwell before he collapsed.

Despite efforts and medical assistance at the school’s health center, the attempts to revive him proved unsuccessful.

Mr. Adegbenro Adebanjo, FUTA’s Director of Corporate Communication, stated in an official statement that Akeredolu was taken to the university’s healthcare facility, where medical professionals confirmed that he had been brought in already deceased.

“The student was rushed to the Health Centre at about 8:50 pm on Thursday, Aug. 24. He was brought in dead. Efforts to resuscitate him through Cardiopulmonary resuscitation and oxygen therapy proved abortive,” Adebanjo explained.

Following this tragic incident, Akeredolu was transferred to the UNIMED Teaching Hospital in Akure by the university’s medical team using the university ambulance.

The news of his passing has left his friends and colleagues devastated, and the management of FUTA stands in solidarity with them during this challenging time.

Adebanjo expressed the university’s condolences, saying, “May the Good Lord grant his soul eternal repose and give the family and friends the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.”

The university’s spokesperson addressed a peaceful protest by students that took place on Friday.

While the protest was not directly linked to Akeredolu’s death, it was related to concerns about services at the University Health Centre.

“The representative of the students, at a meeting with the university’s management called at the behest of the Vice Chancellor, pointed out some lacuna in the process of accessing services at the health centre,” the spokesperson stated.

In response to the issues raised, the university management took immediate steps to address the concerns and shortcomings in the health center’s services.

The corrective measures will be consistently monitored to ensure that they are effectively implemented.

As the FUTA community mourns the loss of Ayomide Akeredolu, the university extends its sympathies to his family and friends, and seeks solace and strength in this trying time.
