In a bid to ensure the integrity of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) 2024, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has issued a directive to all Computer-Based Test (CBT) centre owners to arrest any parent found near their facilities during the examination period.
This directive was issued during the final briefing of CBT centre owners, conducted virtually on Wednesday.
According to Fabian Benjamin, the spokesperson for JAMB, the decision was prompted by the intrusive behavior of some parents during previous examinations.
Benjamin stated that JAMB Registrar, Is-haq Oloyede, emphasized the need to enforce this directive rigorously.
He warned that any parent disregarding the order would not only face arrest but would also lead to the disqualification of their ward from the examination.
The Registrar highlighted instances where parents had facilitated examination malpractices or disrupted examinations in the past.
Some individuals even disguised themselves as parents to infiltrate examination centres and perpetrate infractions.
To enforce this directive, JAMB has instructed security operatives to collaborate with CBT centres in apprehending any meddlesome parent near the examination venues.
Additionally, Oloyede emphasized the importance of candidates safeguarding their personal information to prevent unauthorized access by fraudulent websites.
He cautioned that candidates found patronizing such websites would be treated as accomplices and prosecuted.
Regarding the technical preparedness for the UTME 2024, Oloyede assured that arrangements had been concluded for a seamless conduct across over 700 CBT centres nationwide.
However, in the event of technical challenges during a session, affected candidates would be rescheduled, while subsequent sessions would proceed as scheduled.
Oloyede urged CBT centre owners to view their role as a national engagement rather than solely profit-oriented.
He admonished them to expose any fraudulent practices and reiterated the Board’s commitment to employing state-of-the-art technologies to detect and prevent infractions during the examination.
