In a shocking turn of events, the Kano Police Command has revealed on Wednesday that Hafsat Surajo, a 24-year-old housewife from Unguwa Uku Quarters, Kano, lied about the motive behind the murder of her house help, Nafi’u Hafiz.
Contrary to her claim, police investigations exposed accomplices involved in the gruesome crime.
According to Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the spokesperson for the Kano Police Command, preliminary investigations have been concluded, leading to the charging of Hafsat Surajo and her alleged accomplices before Chief Magistrate Court No: 37 in Yan Kaba Kano.
Originally, Hafsat told the police that she killed Nafi’u Hafiz because he tried to prevent her from committing suicide.
The incident unfolded at Unguwa Uku quarters, Tarauni Local Government Area, Kano state.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel, FIPMA, psc, ordered Hafsat’s arrest on December 21, 2023, based on information received from Hafizu Salisu of Bauchi Metropolis.
Salisu reported a call from Dayyabu Abdullahi of Unguwa Uku Quarters, informing him of Nafi’u Hafiz’s death.
Upon reaching the crime scene, police discovered multiple injuries on the lifeless body, suspected to be knife stabs. SP Abubakar Chika Zaki, the Divisional Police Officer, Zaria Road Division, led a team of detectives in conducting a preliminary investigation.
Further scrutiny at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital confirmed Nafi’u Hafiz’s death, leading to the arrest of Hafsat Surajo, her husband Dayyabu Abdullahi, and Mallam Adamu.
The trio faces charges ranging from attempt to commit suicide, culpable homicide punishable with death, criminal conspiracy, concealment, and providing false information.
While all suspects confessed to their roles, the case is set for prosecution at Chief Magistrate Court No: 37.
The recovery of a blood-stained knife during discreet investigation adds a chilling dimension to the crime, further complicating the already disturbing case.
