The Governor of Kano, Abba Yusuf, has lamented and declared a state of emergency on water scarcity in the state, as he issues a one week ultimatum to the management of Kano State Water Board to fix the issue.
The Governor declared this after visiting the Challawa water treatment plant for inspection on Tuesday.
Having seen the bad state of water, he expressed dissatisfaction and disappoinment with the dilapidated condition of the facilities at the water treatment plant.
He therefore promised that the issue of water shortage would soon become a history.
He added that the state government would carry out all its campaign promises, urging Kano residents to give him the ultimate cooperation.
He further said that the development is part of his administration’s focus to cushion the effect of water scarcity across the state.
While explaining himself, the Director Production, Challawa Water Treatment Plant, Sakabu Lawal said that the outcome was as a result of insufficient infrastructure.
According to him, only two water pumping machines out of six are functional.
Reports have shown that Kano residents have been suffering and lamenting their inability to access water on a daily basis, and how it’s affecting them.
It was gathered that the issue of water scarcity in the state is not limited to the metropolitan areas, but has also extended to rural areas.
