The village head of Aujarawar Alkali in Gezawa Local Government Area of Kano State, Alhaji Ahmad Yakubu Ahmad, has reportedly been killed by his abductors after gunmen invaded the community and took him away.
Ahmad was said to have been abducted during a night attack on the community on September 17, 2026.
His remains were reportedly discovered four days later in a shallow grave at Danladin Gezawa, following the alleged killing by the kidnappers.
A resident of Gezawa, Musa Garba, who confirmed the incident in a telephone interview, said the traditional leader was subjected to severe torture before his death.
Garba said the assailants allegedly cut off one of Ahmad’s legs and tied his hands behind him before continuing the assault until he died.
He said residents later discovered the shallow grave where the abductors allegedly buried the remains and raised the alarm.
“I attended the funeral prayers today (Wednesday) at around 3pm. The assailants tortured the village head to death by cutting off one of his legs and tying his hand behind him. He was brutalised until he died,” Garba said.
He added that the remains were identified by the deceased’s wife after they were recovered.
According to him, the remains were taken to a hospital where Ahmad was reportedly pronounced dead before he was subsequently buried.
“After his death, the abductors buried his remains in a shallow grave in a village called Danladin Gezawa. Four days later, some villagers discovered the grave and raised the alarm.
“The remains were identified by the deceased’s wife. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead and later buried by the hospital officials because the remains were already decomposing,” he added.
Funeral prayers for the deceased were reportedly held at about 3pm on Wednesday before his burial.
The killing has heightened concerns over the security situation in parts of Kano State, particularly the vulnerability of rural communities to armed attacks and abductions.
As of the time of filing this report, the Kano State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement confirming the reported abduction and killing.
