In a heartwarming initiative, Kebbi State conducted a mass wedding at the Gwandu Emirate Palace in Birnin Kebbi, joining together over 300 widows, divorcees, and indigents.

The event, organized by the Kebbi state government under the leadership of Hajia Nafisa Nasir Idris, the wife of the Kebbi governor, was executed by the NANAS foundation, a pet project of Mrs. Idris.

Mrs. Idris highlighted the purpose of the mass wedding, aiming to alleviate the challenges faced by divorcees, widows, and the less privileged who struggle with marriage expenses.

The government, through this initiative, provided essential items such as beds, chairs, and kitchen utensils to assist these individuals in establishing a new home.

Emphasizing the commitment of the government to the welfare of its citizens, Mrs. Idris stated, “My husband has said it at several public functions that he will return governance to the people, and he is doing just that through massive projects and welfare to the people of Kebbi State.”

During the ceremony, a total of 21 million naira was disbursed as dowry to the parents of the brides, with each bride receiving seventy thousand naira, along with a set of chairs, beds, kitchen utensils, and food items.

The mass wedding garnered significant attention, with Kano State’s renowned Islamic cleric, Sheik Aminu Daurawa, presiding over the event.

Local government chairmen, top political figures in Kebbi, and officials from Hisbah, who played a pivotal role in organizing the event, were also in attendance.

The beneficiaries were drawn from the 21 local governments, creating a sense of community and unity among the diverse participants.
