In a shocking incident, hoodlums have reportedly abducted a deceased man’s remains and his family members who were transporting the body to Ameze Owerre, Umabor community in the Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu.

The victim, Mr. Ugwuanyi Israel, who passed away in Lagos, saw his corpse and grieving family members targeted by gun-wielding kidnappers at Umuoka in the Udi local government of Enugu.

The criminals seized both the deceased and his kin as they were en route to their destination.

According to a family member quoted by Ikenga Online, “His corpse was on its way from Lagos yesterday (Sunday) when the vehicle conveying his body was halted by kidnappers, and people in the vehicle alongside the driver were all kidnapped at Umuoka Udi LGA of Enugu State.

The kidnappers have called the family and demanded a N50 million ransom.”

The Enugu State Police Command said it was  unaware of the incident.

DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the Command’s spokesperson, stated, “Honestly, I don’t have any such report.”

Renowned human rights advocate Prof Chidi Odinkalu also shared the alarming report, shedding light on the gravity of the situation. “Israel Ugwuanyi died in Lagos.

“ Yesterday, family members were conveying his remains to Ameze Owerre, Umabor community in Nsukka LGA of Enugu State in SE #Nigeria when kidnappers abducted them & his dead body.

They are demanding N50m in ransom.” The abductors’ audacious demand adds a chilling layer to this distressing incident.
