The 1974 set of the Lisabi Grammar School Alumni Association, Abeokuta, has marked its 50th anniversary with a series of events aimed at giving back to their alma mater and the wider community.

The celebration commenced with a press briefing in Abeokuta on Wednesday, attended by members of the association from Nigeria and the diaspora.
Speaking at the event, the chairman of the set, Chief Dauda Sokeye, highlighted the milestones the group had achieved over the years.

He emphasized that the anniversary was not only a time for celebration but also an opportunity to foster the welfare of members and contribute meaningfully to society.

“As part of this joyous occasion, we plan to present gifts to orphans and visit a lepers’ colony to extend our generosity,” Sokeye said.

“When we started, we realized that not everyone was financially equal. With the help of God and contributions from members like our financial secretary, Alhaji Sakiru Oladosu, we raised millions of naira and decided to extend our support to the community.”

Sokeye listed several contributions the alumni group has made to the school, including the installation of a borehole water system, provision of a generator, a public address system, and a printer.

Additionally, the association donated ₦1 million to help equip a hostel built by another alumni set.

Reflecting on the group’s efforts, retired educationist and member of the association, Alhaji Samsudeen Ayoade Adenekan, stressed the importance of alumni involvement in sustaining educational standards.

“We excelled from this school, and it’s our responsibility to prioritize its needs. Teachers alone cannot address all the challenges students face.
