The Pioneer Bishop of Diocese of Yewa Methodist Church Nigeria, Ogun State, Bishop Charles Adeniyi, has called for urgent action on the deplorable state of Yewa Roads, saying commuters are groaning.
The Cleric said this at the first synod of the Diocese, held in Ilaro, Yewa-South local government area of the state.
PLATFORM TIMES gathered this in a communique jointly signed by Bishop Adeniyi , the Synod Secretary, Sunday Ajayi and Lay President, David Kojeku.
Rising from the Synod, The church called for establishment of more schools and hospitals in rural areas in the state.
The church also urged the state government and individuals to invest heavily in agriculture, adding that the investment would provide raw materials for industries and ensure food security for the population.
The communique read, “Synod views with concern, the deplorable state of roads in and out of Yewa land which has made commuters groan daily while plying these roads. Sincerely. Government should have done more. We plead with the State government and our political office holders representing Ogun West to make road construction in Yewa axis priority when planning for the next line of action.
“No doubt. Agriculture which has been the main source of Revenue has been abandoned. Efforts that agriculture will be resuscitated always lead to lip service. Synod therefore, pleads with government and private bodies to invest heavily in Agriculture to provide raw materials for industries and food for our people.
“The importance of establishing more schools and hospitals in our rural areas cannot be overemphasized. Many lives have been lost, hope dashed, talents buried because of lack of these amenities. Synod hereby tasks government, religious bodies and well-meaning Nigerians to take this as a matter of priority.
“Synod observes that since the return of missionary schools back to their original owners, academic performances has improved, moral decadence has reduced and their co- existence with government schools has brought the desired competition. Therefore, the government needs to explore avenues for returning additional schools to religious institutions.”
