In a significant development, radio, television, theater, and arts industries are set to come to a standstill as workers join a nationwide indefinite strike beginning October 3, 2023.

The announcement came through a notice issued by the Radio, Television, Theatre, and Arts Workers Union of Nigeria (RATTAWU), with General Secretary Comrade A. Akpausoh at the helm.

This decision follows a crucial meeting of the National Executive Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) on September 26, 2023.

During the meeting, it was unanimously resolved that all affiliate unions should participate in a comprehensive nationwide indefinite strike action, set to commence on Tuesday, October 3, 2023.

The strike is expected to be all-encompassing, with no operations in the affected sectors throughout the duration of the action.

Consequently, RATTAWU has directed its state councils and chapters nationwide to mobilize their members for the effective implementation of the strike.

Additionally, Vice Presidents in their respective zones have been tasked with ensuring full compliance with this directive.

The Union emphasized the importance of standing up against injustice, stating, “Remember, ‘He who accepts evil without protesting against it is really cooperating with it.'”

This development raises questions about the potential impact on the media and arts landscape during this indefinite strike period.
