The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) Ogun State Chapter has lauded the Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Professor Mukhtar Abayomi Arigbabu, for his impactful initiatives in the state’s education sector.
A statement obtained by PLATFORM TIMES read that the commendation was delivered by the Chairman of MURIC in Ogun, Ustadh Tajudeen Jimoh Alao, during a courtesy visit to the commissioner, acknowledging significant strides in transforming Ogun’s education landscape.
Ustadh Alao highlighted that under Professor Arigbabu’s leadership, the state’s education system has seen remarkable advancements in infrastructure, teacher welfare, and digital integration.
He praised the Commissioner’s unwavering commitment, which he attributed to the broader Ogun State Education Revitalization Program, supported by Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration.
According to Alao, this initiative has not only renovated numerous public schools across the state but has also elevated the overall quality of education and the environment in which students learn.
“Your achievements are indeed remarkable. Through the Ogun State Education Revitalization Program, you have driven significant advancements in infrastructure development, teacher training, and curriculum enhancement,” Alao stated, underscoring the broad impact these policies have had on public education.
“This focus on infrastructure has substantially elevated the educational standards within Ogun State.”
The MURIC Chairman also commended Professor Arigbabu’s commitment to teacher welfare and professional growth, calling it “an investment in the future of Ogun State.”
By implementing policies that support educators’ well-being and development, Alao noted, the Commissioner has enriched the lives of teachers and improved teaching quality in Ogun’s classrooms.
Another key highlight of the Commissioner’s tenure has been the prioritization of digital learning. Alao praised initiatives like Ogsera, Edutam, and the integration of ICT facilities into schools, which he described as transformative.
“In an era dominated by technology, this initiative equips our students with essential skills that will serve them well in an increasingly digital world,” he remarked, noting that these efforts have driven up enrollment, academic performance, and student engagement.
MURIC’s commendation did not come without suggestions for improvement. Alao voiced concerns over the shortage of qualified Islamic Studies teachers across several schools in Ogun State, pointing out that this shortage has left many Muslim students without sufficient resources to deepen their understanding of their faith alongside their general education.
He called on the Commissioner to prioritize the recruitment of Islamic Studies educators to ensure balanced religious representation in school curriculums.
Additionally, Alao raised the issue of religious freedom at Abeokuta Grammar School, where reports suggest some Muslim students have allegedly been pressured to attend Christian Religious Knowledge (CRK) classes.
MURIC appealed to Professor Arigbabu to ensure that religious studies in schools are conducted with respect for students’ faith choices and that students have the freedom to attend classes aligned with their beliefs.
“As we acknowledge your contributions, we are also mindful of areas that require further attention,” Alao stated, stressing the importance of fostering an inclusive environment.
“We humbly appeal to you to address this matter with fairness and sensitivity, ensuring that all students feel respected and free to pursue their religious studies without undue influence or pressure.”
In closing, Alao offered prayers for the Commissioner, asking for continued strength and success in his leadership.
He emphasized that MURIC and the Muslim community are confident that, under Professor Arigbabu’s leadership, Ogun State’s education sector will continue to grow and achieve new heights.
The visit reflects MURIC’s commitment to supporting educational development while advocating for a balanced approach to religious studies in Ogun’s educational institutions.
