In a shocking turn of events, Wosilat Suleiman, a mother who had just delivered a baby boy via Caesarean Section at Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital in Lafia, Nasarawa State, fell victim to a cunning yet-to-be-identified woman on Tuesday.

The mysterious woman, feigning goodwill, vanished with the one-day-old baby after offering to assist in bathing him, leaving Wosilat in distress.

Wosilat recounted, “My relative, who was looking after me, introduced the unfamiliar woman she encountered in the ward before she briefly left to fetch something.

Assuming the woman had a patient in the ward, my relative trusted her to care for us in her absence.

The woman claimed she wanted to bathe the baby and disappeared with him.”

Appealing for assistance, Wosilat urged relevant authorities to help locate her missing baby, emphasising the emotional pain she is enduring.

Expressing regret, the hospital management acknowledged the incident despite stringent security measures in place.

Dr. Mohammed Salihu, the Acting Head of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department, lamented that it was the first theft of its kind in the hospital.

Detailing the events, Dr. Salihu explained, “Wosilat delivered at approximately 3 a.m., and her baby was handed over to her relative before being transferred to the postnatal ward.

Unfortunately, the patient’s relative entrusted a stranger with the care of her sister, believing she had a genuine reason to leave briefly.”

He disclosed that the hospital promptly reported the matter to the police, who have initiated an investigation.

Dr. Salihu assured that the hospital’s management would scrutinize CCTV footage to identify and apprehend the culprit.

Meanwhile, the relative of the mother has been arrested, and some hospital staff are being questioned in connection with the incident.
