The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has seized banned alcoholic beverages worth about ₦300 million and arrested some distributors and retailers in Lagos State over alleged involvement in the distribution and sale of the prohibited products.
The enforcement operation, according to the agency, is part of its ongoing efforts to prevent banned alcoholic products from reaching consumers and to protect public health.
NAFDAC stressed that the ban on the affected alcoholic products remains in force, warning traders and other stakeholders against stocking, distributing or selling them.
The agency’s action comes amid concerns over the continued circulation of regulated and prohibited products despite regulatory restrictions.
The seized products, valued at approximately ₦300 million, were reportedly recovered during enforcement activities targeting distributors and retailers suspected of dealing in the banned alcoholic beverages.
Those arrested are expected to face further regulatory investigation, while the agency continues its efforts to trace the supply chain through which the products allegedly entered the market.
NAFDAC has repeatedly warned that the circulation of banned or unregistered products poses risks to consumers and undermines the country’s regulatory framework for food, drugs and other regulated products.
The agency therefore urged members of the public, distributors, retailers and other stakeholders to desist from trading in the affected alcoholic beverages.
It also called on consumers to exercise caution and report suspected violations to the appropriate regulatory authorities.
The latest seizure underscores the agency’s determination to enforce its regulatory decisions and prevent banned products from remaining in circulation.
NAFDAC reiterated that the prohibition remains effective and warned businesses and individuals against violating the directive.
