NBTE Announces Phasing Out Of HND Computer Science In Polytechnics Nationwide

The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has revealed its decision to gradually discontinue Higher National Diploma (HND) Computer Science programs in public Polytechnics and monotechnics across Nigeria.

In an official statement released on Monday, the Board outlined that, starting from the 2024/25 academic session, no new admissions would be accepted for the HND Computer Science Programme.

To facilitate a smooth transition, the NBTE has granted a grace period to institutions offering the programme, allowing them to graduate students who were admitted under the old curricula.

The Executive Secretary of the Board, Idris Bugaje, conveyed this decision through a letter titled “Unbounding of ND Computer Science Programme.”

The NBTE specified the cancellation of four specialised courses under the computer science program in government-funded learning institutions: HND Artificial Intelligence, HND Networking and Cloud Computing, HND Software and Web Development, and HND Cybersecurity and Data Protection.

The letter emphasised, “In view of the above, you are requested to kindly note that admissions from the 2024/2025 academic session into the erstwhile ND Computer Science program will be only in the aforementioned four specialized areas.”

The NBTE anticipates that institutions will handle this information appropriately and ensure widespread dissemination.
