NDLEA Arrests 70-Year-Old Grandpa For Illegal Trafficking

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has apprehended  a 70-year-old grandfather, Muhammadu Ibrahim for alleged  involvement  in illicit drug activities.

The operation, which took place in Lafia, the capital of Nasarawa state, resulted in the seizure of 57.2 kilograms of cannabis from Ibrahim.

The NDLEA’s Director of Media and  Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, disclosed that Ibrahim was arrested alongside three other suspects between May 29 and May 31 in various locations across the country.

Babafemi said in Ekiti state, NDLEA officers conducted a raid in Ara Forest, Ara-Ekiti, leading to the arrest of two suspects, Suleiman Kazeem, 35, and Sunday Gbenga, 20.

He added that the  raid uncovered 426 kilograms of processed cannabis sativa, packed in large sacks, and resulted in the destruction of 4,000 kilograms of the substance cultivated on a 1.66-hectare farmland.

According to him, further arrests were made in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, where Blessing Thomas, a 25-year-old lady, was intercepted by NDLEA operatives along the Kwali-Gwagwalada expressway.

He said  Thomas was found in possession of 1.0 kilogram of methamphetamine while traveling from Lagos to Yola, Adamawa state.

Babafemi said the  NDLEA’s crackdown also extended to Katsina state, where Suleman Audu, a 29-year-old Nigerien national, was apprehended along the Zaria-Malumfashi Road.

He said  Audu was found with 76 blocks of cannabis weighing 42 kilograms, highlighting the cross-border nature of drug trafficking and the agency’s efforts to combat it.

Babafemi emphasized the NDLEA’s commitment to eradicating drug trafficking and abuse in Nigeria, urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.

The arrests signify a significant victory in the agency’s ongoing efforts to stem the tide of drug-related crimes in the country and underscore the need for continued collaboration between law enforcement agencies to address this pressing issue.
