The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has made a significant arrest involving a female lawyer, her boyfriend, mother, and others in connection with an illicit drug operation.

According to Mr. Femi Babafemi, the Director of Media and Advocacy for NDLEA, a joint operation with the Abia Homeland Security led to the apprehension of the suspects on February 14.

The raid, carried out at 23 Arochukwu Street, Umuahia, around 11:00 p.m., resulted in the arrest of the female lawyer, Adaobi Nweke (36), her boyfriend Emeka Nkemefola (36), her mother Ngozi Nweke (65), along with herbalist Dike Okpara (43), family members Chukwudi Abel (33) and Amarachi Paul (18), and the 22-year-old salesgirl Blessing Jonathan.

The investigation unveiled that the family had been involved in the illicit drug trade, a legacy passed on by their late father, Jonathan Nweke.

The confiscated items included varying amounts of Cocaine, Heroin, Methamphetamine, Loud, Cannabis Sativa (Indian hemp), and precursor chemicals, totaling 1.670kg. Additionally, a monetary exhibit of N578,400 was seized during the operation.

In a related development, NDLEA operatives intercepted a consignment of 26.2 grams of Loud, an illicit substance, being transported by a 25-year-old Uber driver, Joshua Henry.

The suspect had picked up the drugs in Abuja and was en route to deliver them to a customer in Keffi, Nasarawa State, on February 12.

On February 14, another arrest was made in Kano State, where a 54-year-old Dada Adedara was found in possession of 468 blocks of marijuana weighing 246.4kg.

Meanwhile, in Ogun state, the NDLEA apprehended Kafayat Junaid and Sakirat Osoanu with 13kg of Indian hemp.

In Kogi, a 45-year-old suspect, Charles Chike, was arrested in a hotel in Lokoja on February 16, carrying 290 blocks of compressed cannabis weighing 116kg, concealed in the boot of a blue Honda Accord car marked Abuja ABC 853 SL, which originated from Ekiti state en route to Abuja.
