In a bid to strengthen its cyber security capabilities, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has joined forces with the People’s Republic of China Ministry of Public Security in a two-week seminar on Combating Cybercrime.

This collaborative initiative, which took place from October 29th to November 11th, 2023, saw 15 NPF contingents gaining valuable insights into the prevention and detection of cybercrimes.

The seminar, an outcome of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun’s earlier visit to China, was organized by the Third Institute of the Ministry of Public Security, PR China, and co-organized by the Shanghai Institute of Science and  Technology Management. Its primary objective was to enhance the knowledge and skills of Nigerian police officers in the battle against cyber threats.

The workshop encompassed various critical aspects of cyber security, including Zero Trust, Network Security Level Protection Management, Methods of Strategic Intelligence Analysis, and Analysis of Electronic Data Forensic under the New Situation of Network, IoT, and Open Source Data Intelligence Analysis.

Led by Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP Muhammad Musa Danko, the Nigerian contingent expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to learn from China’s success story in cybercrime prevention.

They acknowledged the invaluable contribution of experts such as Song HaoHao, John Homan, Cheng Xin, and Zhao Jinping, who shared their knowledge and provided a multidisciplinary perspective on cybercrimes.

This seminar not only strengthened the bond between Nigerian and Chinese law enforcement agencies but also fostered a deeper understanding of the ever-evolving landscape of cyber threats.

IGP Kayode Egbetokun, expressed his appreciation to the Republic of China for sponsoring the program, which imparted crucial cyber security knowledge to Nigeria Police Officers.

He pledged unalloyed collaboration with China in security and intelligence sharing.

The IGP congratulated the contingents on expanding their knowledge and urged them to effectively apply their newfound experiences in combating cybercrime and contributing to the nation’s security efforts.

This partnership with China signifies a significant step forward in Nigeria’s efforts to bolster its cyber security arsenal, demonstrating a commitment to safeguarding the nation against cyber threats and criminal activities.
