Nigeria’s Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a warning to the public regarding an imminent dust haze that is expected to reduce visibility in several parts of the country.

The agency has cautioned that this weather phenomenon poses health risks, particularly to individuals with respiratory ailments.

In a statement signed by the General Manager of Public Relations, Muntari Yusuf Ibrahim, NiMet highlighted the risk of dust haze propagation, particularly in Northern Nigeria.

Stations in the source region have reported visibility levels ranging from 800 meters to 6000 meters, with Chad expected to experience poor visibility in the next 24 hours.

Due to strong winds, the suspended dust is anticipated to reduce visibility significantly in states including Katsina, Kano, Jigawa, Potiskum, and Maiduguri within the next 24 hours.

NiMet advises the public to take precautions against the effects of suspended dust, especially those who suffer from respiratory ailments.

Airline operators have been strongly urged to stay informed with NiMet’s weather reports in order to plan their operations effectively and ensure passenger safety.

With reduced visibility and adverse weather conditions, airlines should take necessary precautions to avoid disruptions and potential hazards.

Despite the challenges posed by the dust haze, NiMet has reassured the public of its commitment to regular weather monitoring and pledged to provide timely updates when necessary.

The agency’s dedication to tracking and reporting on weather conditions is aimed at ensuring the safety and well-being of the Nigerian population.

As the dust haze threat looms, Nigerians are encouraged to stay informed, take necessary precautions, and heed NiMet’s guidance to minimize the potential risks associated with this weather phenomenon.
